Our esteemed panel moderated by Victoria Fearne, Head of Strategic Client Partnerships at Barbri, will share insights on supporting paralegals, SQE students, and newly qualified lawyers, offering real-world strategies to develop the next generation of legal professionals.

This session will provide practical advice and success stories from industry experts, helping you create a culture that fosters growth, retention, and long-term career development within your legal team.

We will also be delving into the SQE route to qualification and discussing how in-house legal teams can strategically build and develop their workforce by supporting future solicitors through this pathway.

Panellists include:

Sinead Murray - Sinead is the General Counsel at Ofgem and has been in that role since August 2021.

She is a member of the Senior Executive Committee and sits on the Board. She is also a sponsor of the department’s disability network EnAble. Prior to Ofgem, Sinead was a Director in the Government Legal Department (GLD) as Legal Director at BEIS from January 2019. She jointly headed the Division, mainly leading on energy, intellectual property, science and space. Prior to joining GLD, Sinead was the Director of Personal Tax and Corporate Services at Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs Solicitor’s Office. 

Sinead joined government from the independent bar in 2000 and in her early career led on projects such as the Olympic Bid, setting up the UK Border Agency and advising on international criminal matters.

Oliver Storey Oliver is the Head of Legal at Metro Bank, having recently been promoted to the role in November 2024, and has worked in Metro Bank’s Legal Team for six years.  

Oliver qualified in private practice in 2012 and moved to an in-house role immediately following qualification.  After a two-year spell working as Legal Counsel at Care UK in the care sector, which included representing the company at coroner’s inquests, Oliver moved to the UK’s largest BPO in financial services, SS&C (formerly DST) before moving to Metro Bank in 2019.

Oliver is a generalist but predominantly works in the areas of commercial, corporate and data protection; his most recent high-profile deal being the sale by Metro Bank of £2.5 billion of prime residential mortgages to NatWest Group.
