Analysing the role and ethics of the in-house lawyer

In collaboration with Globe Law and Business

  • Event date: 14 March 2018 06:00 PM
  • Event type: Workshop
  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • Provided by: The Centre for Legal Leadership and Globe Law and Business

15 years on from the ground breaking "Scapegoat or Saviour" workshops and research on defining both the role and the ethical obligations of in-house lawyers; we assessed where, and how thinking has advanced on these important topics and considered the current situation and likely future trends. Our expert panel looked at the topic from four different perspectives; that of the client; GC; legal team and supplier.

Each of our experts spoke about one of these perspectives before breaking out into working groups, moderated by the experts where they considered one of the topics raised in more detail with their peers using a case study situation to prompt the conversation. Each group then reported back on their discussion to everyone else so that they could have the benefit of the thinking of all groups.

Our speakers were Philip Wood QC from Allen & Overy and Ciarán Fenton.
