This event is an online roundtable.
As the organisation’s only lawyer, you’re ideally placed to get close to the board and senior management and to advise on the range of legal issues that arise across the organisation. You can potentially get in early on important plans, projects and decisions and influence and persuade.
At the same time, you may find that your proximity to your business colleagues means that every legal matter whether complex or straightforward, urgent, or otherwise, comes your way with the expectation that, as the lawyer, you can deal with anything and everything.
You may also find that at least some of your business colleagues are not sure what your role is nor how you can help them meet their business objectives. You may be viewed by some as an unnecessary block on what they want to do, as a cost centre only, or as someone who is there to provide legal advice only when asked and at the lowest possible cost.
You also have the challenge of being up to date of all relevant areas of the law, without the luxury of having lawyer colleagues to discuss difficult issues with.
While there are undoubtedly many exciting aspects to being a sole lawyer, you may feel that you’re sometimes swimming against the tide, spending too much time firefighting and at risk of becoming overwhelmed.
This event is therefore aimed at those lawyers who are working as a sole lawyer (or even in a very small team) who would welcome the chance to discuss the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of their roles, to share their experience and learn from others – including those who have been where you may be now. It provides an opportunity to talk with your peers about how you and others have coped with the challenges of the role and the tips and tricks people use to make the role exciting and rewarding, while minimising the threat of being overwhelmed and burning out.
Presenters for this session are Anthony Inglese and Paul Bentall.
Places are limited and offered on a first come first served basis and participation is mandatory. Please fill in the form below and we will contact you back.
